Dear members, the long awaited day has come. PCDHFC will be open again on Saturday, June 6th. We have largely completed our mitigation construction and COVID protocols are in place. Before you pack your ammunition please be advised of some changes.
COVID Guidelines must be obeyed
After a visit by WorkSafe BC guidelines for members are in place. This will limit our capacity and will enforce physical distancing. In addition masks must be worn when required and those without masks may be asked to go home. Members will be provided with cleaning supplies to clean their immediate areas. More details about the COVID guidelines are here.
Members Only – no guests
It is because of this reduced capacity and to keep our club safe from transmission that at present the club is closed to non-members. This includes guests.
Range 7 will be on reduced capacity
Due to need for physical distancing, shooting will be on every second bench. Members may double up only if they are from the same household up to two persons. The Range Master – at his discretion – will limit range use to two target changes depending on capacity. A line up will be established outside of Range 7 for overflow.
Range 7 target positions have been changed to yards
The recent CFO Inspection found that the back berm on Range 7 was too low to adequately counter errant shots. Faced with the prospect of an expensive upgrade to the back berm the decision was made instead to convert the range from metric to yards, losing around 10 per cent of the distance. Hence 200m has become 200 yds, 100m will be 100 yds, etc. In addition all target lines have been lowered.
Range 10 is open for all pistol
Because the angle of error for pistol is greater than for rifle, the difficult decision was made to move all pistol (excepting RUC Lower Ranges) to Range 10. Range 10 is open featuring a higher berm, ground baffles, new target distances and new permanent shelter. No more rainy day excuses! Range 10 will continue to be a supervised range.
Range 3 now has ground baffles and awaits material for raising its berm
When you see Range 3 you will notice rows of wooden boxes extending across its width. These are not planters but are semi-permanent ground baffles that were mandated to prevent the escape of ground ricochets. Even with the ground baffles, the berm is being raised. An excavator is on site awaiting more material so this work can be completed.
Range 1 Rental Range
The rental range also has sprouted ground baffles and its berm has increased in height by a good third.
Office
The Office is open for renewals and registrations. A table has been set across the entrance so that the office manager can control access. All transactions at the Office and Range Office will be CARD ONLY / NO CASH.
Lower Ranges
Lower Ranges will operate as normally keeping in mind the same distancing and mask protocols.
Courses and Committees
Leaders of the Committees are now open to reschedule their activities, though there may be some changes to the calendar. Courses will be rescheduled soon with reduced capacity and spacing considerations.
On behalf of the club the Executive extends our thanks to all directors, staff and volunteers who have used the temporary closure to help rebuild the range. Without their efforts the club would have incurred greater expense and difficulty.
We thank our members for their patience and understanding during these two extreme circumstances.
