A BIG “SHOUT OUT” to regular feeders and members at Grist Goeson Memorial Hatchery (GGMH) for their dedication to daily feeding, care and attention to on hand FRY throughout the year, and ongoing site maintenance.
Throughout the year GGMH can have a range of 20,000 to 110,000 Fry on hand. This range includes 60,000 Coho Fry from the current year broodstock, 20,000 Coho Smolts from prior year broodstock, and 30,000 seasonal Chinook fry.
Seasonally, November through July is typically GGMH’s busiest time of year, with the following actions: Coho broodstock capture, egg incubation, early Fry ponding and rearing, release of “unmarked” Fry Coho and Chinook, release of “marked” Coho Smolts then clipping or “marking” 20,000 Coho fry for further retention and release the following year. Our members “do the impossible”, through passion, experience, and with great dedication daily during this time!
So How Fast Do Fry Grow?
The 2019 brood year fry are growing rapidly, and are very healthy!
Below is a graphical representation of the Coho fry weight progression. The Fry are in seasonal peak growth form, 1.6 grams in 13 days! Amazing!
Next weigh in will be at month end…DFO may have to put them on a diet ?!

Again, to all regular feeders and members, the FRY shout out “THANKS FOR KEEPING ME FULL”, and thanks for your dedication to GGMH, much appreciated.
