PCDHFC in partnership with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), B.C. Hydro and the Kwikwitlem First Nation has for decades operated a modern hatchery devoted to the fostering of multiple species of salmon and trout. Maintained by dozens of dedicated volunteers, The Grist Goesen Memorial Hatchery has rejuvenated the Coquitlam River by raising and releasing annually tens of thousands of young fish under the scientific guidance of government biologists and other stakeholders. Through our able hatchery section we participate in the Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable to ensure that the headwaters of Coquitlam are preserved.
This photo story by volunteers Norm Fletcher and Marek Syrzycki tells the story of the hatchery and its journey best.
