PCDHFC wants all members to have a great time shooting safely. If you are a new member, you must take the New Member Course.
Important Note: We keep these courses within reasonable time limits, so it’s vital that you attend PROMPTLY at the start of the session. Late-comers will be accommodated at the next course.
The course lasts for four hours until 1pm so BRING SNACKS, DRINKS and/or COFFEE!
New Member Course (NMC)
The New Member Course is required for all PCDHFC new members, as well as renewing members who have NOT YET COMPLETED the NMC Course. Any member of the club who is renewing membership after an absence of 3 years or more also must take the NMC.
It’s your responsibility to register and attend a New Members Course.
The New Member Course covers many topics, including:
- range safety procedures
- emergency cease fire procedures
- understanding the relevant crowd psychology and how to mitigate
- review of ACTS/PROVE
- malfunction procedures
- review of documentation required to bring restricted and non-restricted firearms to the club
- range etiquette
- how to prepare and supervise a new shooter (or someone who just wants to try)
- understanding the physiological and psychological effects of being in a shooting range for the first time, and how to mitigate
- Social responsibility as a shooter and as a Club member
- PCDHFC history
- PCDHFC Committees and activities
- operating structure of the club
- development plans for our facilities
- PCDHFC status and involvement in the community
- range tour to orient everyone with the club site
At the end of the course there is a 40 question True/False examination. You need to achieve 90% (36 / 40) to be successful.
REMEMBER, bring your Interim Membership Card and a pen to complete the paperwork. You will also want to bring appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather the day of your class.
Registration & Costs
New Member Courses are generally held on Saturday mornings for approximately 4 hours.
Cost for the New Member Course is $20 per person ($40 families), payable with your current year membership application. To register please contact the Range Office at 604.942.9772. You must get the New Member Course material from the Range Office Monday – Sunday, from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm. The office is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday and statutory holidays.
Before you attend an NMC course, you MUST pick up your course material in advance and bring either your Interim Membership card or plastic membership card to the class. NMC applicants can register at the club office 604.942.9772.
To register for the RUC (Range User Course) new members must shoot at Range 7 under supervised conditions at least five times (demonstrated by collecting signatures from the Range Officer(s) on your Interim Membership Card or equivalent). Range staff will not sign interim cards until the NMC is passed.
New members must complete the NMC course within 60 days of registration. If the NMC course is not completed within 60 days you will be required to pay a $35 day card fee each visit until the NMC is completed.

Courses will only be held if a minimum of five students pre-register. Courses are confirmed two days prior to the course taking place.
Walk-in registrations are NOT accepted, as you must have a paid up membership before the course can be scheduled. Registration can not be taken by the Instructors or the Range Officers.
