Welcome to IPSC, What is it?
The Port Coquitlam District Hunting and Fishing club has a very active group who are involved in the International Practical Shooting Confederation or IPSC.
IPSC is a diverse competition in Pistols, Rifles and Shotguns through varied ‘stages’ designed to challenge the competitors in Speed, Accuracy and Power (through higher caliber pistols) with pistols being the prominent platform of choice here at PCDHFC.
Why shoot IPSC?
IPSC takes static pistol shooting at the range to a whole new level. The courses of fire or “Stages” within IPSC are always different from stage to stage, match to match. They will have you navigating simple to complex stages while engaging steel or paper targets that are could be partially covered, swinging, right in front of you or 15-20 meters away! Some stages are only 12 rounds while others are as much as 32 rounds and while that may not sound like much, read the last sentence! It is a ton of fun and scales very well for brand new shooters yet offers the hardcore people all the competition they desire!
Club members attend many IPSC matches locally and traveling around BC and across Canada during the season, and yes, our Club hosts several matches here as well! Many clubs besides PCDHFC host and promote IPSC so be sure to check out the IPSCBC site calendar for all upcoming matches (find the link below)
What the club offers:
PCDHFC makes getting involved and honing skills within IPSC fun and easy. Got your Pistol Firearms Licence? Here’s what’s next.
Enroll in the Black Badge course, this is the staple of IPSC. The Black Badge Course teaches new students:
- The history of IPSC
- The different Divisions from Revolvers to Production pistols to high end “race” pistols with red dot’s and all the bells and whistles and more
- What equipment is used
- How to safely use, draw from a holster
- How to safely maneuver a course of fire with a pistol
- How to safely interact with many ‘props’ that competitors must use during a course of fire
- How to score, prepare for and get around on Match day
Once you’ve taken your Black Badge course, PCDHFC further offers its members regular practice sessions almost year-round which can include everything from fundamental drills to full on match-grade practice stages. We take pride in making this sport fun and inviting for shooters of ALL skill and ability levels. Some people choose to join for casual fun, others aspire to reach the peak of their shooting abilities, everyone is welcome.
Check our Events Calendar for practices and upcoming matches. Practices are usually Thursday Evenings and Some Weekend days (Look for “IPSC” on the calendar)
