Members of PCDHFC Western International Pistol League and International Shooting Sport Federation (WIPL/ISSF) club did very well in the BC small bore provincial championships, on May 4 and 5. Our team won eleven awards out of a total of sixteen across the four pistol disciplines, including ALL the match winners.
There are sixteen awards in the four disciplines because shooters compete in different classifications, according to past performance. Match winner is the top shooter across all classifications in the same discipline, who also gets a gold, so 2 golds in the same discipline.
PCDHFC members are highlighted in the following results.
Events | Match Winner | Gold | Silver | Bronze |
50m pistol | Jian Zeng | Thomas Logan | Shane Staniek | Tony Zhang |
Standard Pistol | Jian Zeng | Shane Staniek | Dave Padda | Yingli Zhao |
Sport/Center Fire Pistol | Edmond Lee | Shivendra Mohan | Shane Staniek | Yingli Zhao |
Rapid Fire | Edmond Lee | Shane Staniek | Shivendra Mohan | Jian Zeng |
These results show that our WIPL/ISSF group is bringing success to new shooters at the Club. Jian James Zeng, double match winner and bronze medalist, has been competing and receiving coaching in the group only since August 2023. The same is true for double bronze medalist Yingli Zhao, and three other competitors. These five new shooters competed with and have been coached on target pistols borrowed from other shooters. They are now well positioned to get permission to obtain authorization letters from the BC Target Sports Association (required by Bill C-21) approving them to acquire their own pistols. The President of the BCTSA, who issues C-21 authorization letters personally, attended the competitions and is supportive of our work in developing new pistol athletes. PCDHFC members will be able to increase awareness of this pathway to pistol ownership, through participation in WIPL/ISSF.
