Sunday Dec 6 saw the Port Coquitlam club hosting the 11th Annual Doc Harrison Memorial Turkey Shoot.
The number of shooters was down a little bit this year – I blame the heavy, heavy, rain and the 3 other competing events taking place in the Fraser Valley that same day – but everyone who attended seemed to be having a good time.
This year’s shoot was a little different as I managed to get some new targets for us to perforate. All but one of them was in the form of some kind of Turkey – I figured that after all, it is a turkey shoot, and that’s what we should be shooting at. OK, one was actually a vulture, but I like to think of it as a turkey vulture.
I even managed to talk Steve Burrus into bringing up his “chicken swinger” steel target, which we set up at 100 meters. I can tell you from firsthand experience that a chicken is sure hard to hit with a round ball at that distance. Thanks for providing us with the challenge Steve.
Anyway, the “all poultry” shoot was lots of fun and at lunch time we also got to sample Val’s excellent beef stew which tasted fantastic as usual.
This is my favourite shoot of the year: we get to honour Doc’s memory and we get to see some faces that can’t make it out to the monthly shoots, but always make time to come out to Doc’s shoot.
My heartfelt thanks to Val Soon and Stewart Goodin for their invaluable support for this past Sunday and throughout the rest of the year. Without their help with the unenviable task of score keeping, I don’t know how I could pull off the shoots.
Oh yeah… Who was the winner this year you ask? Well, let’s just say that yours truly finally managed to get his name on the trophy after 11 years of trying.
Best Regards,
