Concerned firearms owners and supporters packed the clubhouse to learn strategies to combat pending C-71 and the further efforts by anti-gun lobbyists and the present government in curtailing rights of legal owners. MPs Michelle Rempel, Bob Zimmer, Glen Motz and CCFR President Rod Giltaca spoke ably about the current passage of C-71 now in the hands of the Senate, how the UN Marking Scheme has been delayed to after the election, how the media has been getting the the ‘gun crime’ news and statistics wrong, and how firearms owner’s have been misrepresented in house committees.
The message to concerned owners is to contact MPs and Senators often and intelligently, rendering arguments into simple, personal stories. And owners should reach out to the media and to their fellow Canadians and break down the complex arguments into shared concerns over public safety and how the current government’s proposals miss the mark.
We thank the CCFR/CCDAF for quickly organizing last night’s town hall at the clubhouse. With a week’s notice things came together very quickly. We thank our guests and visitors for their participation.
